I came up with and developed a concept for a Cirque Du Soliel show. I came up with the concept of Himemori, based around the title character of Princess Mononoke (an animated film by Hayao Miyazaki) (IMDB). I decided to center the story around the wolf princess herself, instead of Prince Ashitaka. The general themes and setting are still very much similar – the wolf girl is an orphan raised by wolves protecting the forest of the gods and spirits from the advancing human civilization.

The promotional material for Himemori was fabricated digitally based on my own photo-shoot and materials. The mood and atmosphere is dark and daring with a bit of magical mystery.

30 Second Video Loop

This short loop to promote the show was designed to go on LCD displays’ at the venue. It captures the old fantasy story mood and adventure/battle atmosphere!

Varoom is a popular Illustration magazine based in the UK. I felt their ‘illustrated lettering edition’ could use a little re-design so i went to work. The new design sports a “spine sleeve”, which contains promotional bookmarks featuring illustrators from within the book. — More shots after the break!

The Original Design

A lot of people ask me what I didn’t like about the original design. I can’t really give a straight answer to that. It is a cool look, it’s liquidy and dynamic and eye-catching! However the weird old-mayonaise colour kind of turns me off immediately. Also the illustrative text which reads “this is illustration” is almost too obvious to be inspiring. No one can read it (I asked around) — this turns people away! I like to be compelled by typography, personally, but to be baffled by it is another thing all-together!

Synthetik is an electronic music magazine to which I am the editor, designer, photographer, and co-ordinator. I laid out every page, designed every ad, and edited every article (written by close friends of mine).

This is a package for a clever mash-up between two movies. “The Darjeeling Limited” – a film by Wes Anderson (IMDB), and “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” a cult classic science fiction film (IMDB). Lots of little details in this one. Demonstrates my advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.

Douglas Hofstadter wrote “I am a Strange Loop” a few years ago now. His original cover art (seen here) is cold, sterile, and scientific. This re-designed book jacket adds some warmth. This novel is about the workings of the human mind and the physical world. It is deep and complex and It’s cover should portray these themes! Book jackets and publishing is very interesting to me, I would like to someday do more projects like this one.

Night Raiders is a red wine that comes in a plastic bottle. I used this bottle for an Illustration project to demonstrate and hone my skills in Adobe Illustrator. You’ll see from the original photograph, below (after the break), the work that was put into this.
